Oversize Transport Permits

Standard dimensions (no permit required)

A permit is NOT required for the following standard combinations:

  • Tractor unit with semi-trailer: 16.50 m × 2.55 m × 4.00 m / 40.00 t
  • Truck with trailer: 18.75 m × 2.55 m × 4.00 m / 40.00 t

Exceeding any of the above parameters (dimensions, gross weight, or axle loads) already requires obtaining an oversize transport permit.

a) Single-use permits

  • Number of trips: One trip.
  • Territorial scope: Valid only for one specific route.
  • Validity: Up to 30 days from the date of issue.
  • Weight: Applies to all weight ranges.

b) Multiple-use permits

  • Number of trips: Multiple trips.
  • Scope:
    • Up to 40.00 t: Valid throughout the entire territory of the Slovak Republic.
    • From 40.01 to 60.00 t: Valid for a maximum of 5 precisely defined routes.
  • Validity: Up to 6 months.
  • Weight: From 40.00 t to 60.00 t.

The application processing time depends on the transport parameters and the type of permit:

  • Single-use permit (up to 26.00 × 4.50 × 4.50 m / 40.00 t): 5 business days
  • Multiple-use permit (up to 26.00 × 4.50 × 4.50 m / 40.00 t): 7 business days
  • Single-use permit (26.00 × 4.50 × 4.50 m / from 40.00 t to 60.00 t): min. 14 business days
  • Multiple-use permit (from 40.00 t to 60.00 t, max 6 months): min. 30 business days
  • Any permits over 60.00 t or over 4.50 m wide/high: min. 40 business days (depending on route complexity)

When submitting the application, you need:

  • Vehicle technical inspection certificate (proof of a valid inspection).
  • Certificate of roadworthiness/registration document.
  • Third-party liability insurance (OC) policy.

Standard European transit hours apply (there are no extra, specific restrictions for oversize transport beyond the general driver hours regulations).

Cancellation costs depend on the stage of order processing and the timing of the cancellation in relation to the planned start of the escort operation.

The same principle applies to permit cancellations — the later the cancellation is made, the higher the potential costs, resulting from preparatory work already completed, submitted applications, and allocated resources.

Civil escort rules:

  • Escort requirement: An escort is mandatory from a width of 3.00 meters.
  • Escort service: The escort must be provided by a Slovak company; foreign carriers may not use their own escorts.
  • Number of escort vehicles: The required number depends on the specific transport parameters (length, width, weight) and is set individually for each permit.
