Oversize Transport Permits

Standard Dimensions – Transport Without a Permit

Tractor Unit with Semi-trailer

  • Non-extendable combination: 16,5 × 3,3 × 4,1 m; 40 t
  • Extendable combination without steerable axles: 22 × 3,3 × 4,1 m; 40 t
  • Extendable combination with steerable axles: 30 × 3,3 × 4,1 m; 40 t

Truck with Trailer

  • 18,75 × 3,3 × 4,1 m; 40 t

If the transport weight exceeds 48 tonnes, a classification certificate is required in addition to the standard permit.

Exceeding any of the above parameters (dimensions, gross vehicle weight, or axle loads) requires obtaining an oversize transport permit.

Short-term permit

Issued for a specific route, valid for one-way or two-way transport.

Permanent permit

It is possible to obtain an annual permanent permit for vehicles whose dimensions and weight do not exceed specified limits:

  • 30 × 3,65 × 4,1 m; 48 t

The permit is issued based on documents confirming the necessity of such transport.

Permits are issued for one vehicle combination only.

2–5 business days

It is not possible to extend the validity of an already issued permit. In such cases, a new permit application must be submitted.

  • Scans of vehicle registration certificates
  • Gutachten or §70 approval – required when exceeding 40 t
  • Authorization from the leasing company – if the vehicle is leased
  • Danish qualification certificate – required for weights above:
  • 50 t (for a 6-axle combination)
  • 56 t (for a 7-axle combination)

  • Transport is carried out from sunrise to sunset
  • For vehicles wider than 5 m, transport is permitted only during night-time hours.

Cancellation costs depend on the stage of order execution and the timing of the cancellation in relation to the planned start of the escort operation.

The same principle applies to permit cancellations: the later the cancellation occurs, the higher the potential costs due to preparation work already completed, submitted applications, and resources already allocated.

Organization of Oversize Transport Operations

Oversize transport is a complex logistics operation that requires precision, experience, and excellent coordination.

???? Professional Route Planning
We analyse every kilometre of the route: bridge load capacity, turning radii, roundabouts, overpasses, detours, as well as both temporary and permanent roadworks. Planning begins well before the vehicle’s first movement.

???? Transport Escort
Specialised escort vehicles, equipped in accordance with applicable regulations, ensure a smooth and safe passage, responding dynamically to real-time road conditions.

???? Documentation and Formalities
Permits, approvals, and agreements with road authorities and other institutions — we take care of every document required for a safe and legal transport operation.

????️ Detailed Logistics Planning
We select optimal transit times, plan alternative routes, monitor weather conditions, and consider all external factors that may impact execution.

Result?

???? Oversize transport is carried out safely, legally, and on time, with full control at every stage — from initial planning to final unloading.

Escort of Oversize Transport Operations

Civilian pilotage

Vehicle Dimension Requirements:

Motorways:

  • Escort vehicles are required for transports exceeding 4,00 m width lub 30 m length

Roads Other Than Motorways:

  • Escort vehicles are required for transports exceeding 3,65 m width lub 30 m length.

Mirror Rule

In Denmark, the so-called mirror rule applies, according to which the requirement for an escort vehicle depends on the driver’s visibility

  • If the load restricts visibility in the side mirrors, an escort vehicle is mandatory starting from a width of 2,85 m
  • However, if the driver maintains full visibility due to the positioning of the load, an escort vehicle is not required, even for larger dimensions.

This rule is essential when determining whether the transport requires a front escort, rear escort, or escorts on both sides.

Types of Escorts and Requirements

Own pilot

If the transport is escorted by the company’s own vehicle, the vehicle must:

  • be yellow in colour,
  • be marked with red-and-white stripes on both the front and rear, in accordance with Danish regulations..

Requirements for Escort Vehicle Drivers

  • hold a Category C + E driving licence,
  • be able to read and understand the Danish permit,
  • comply with all conditions and instructions specified in the permit documentation.

Police Escort and Substitute Escort Services

Regulations concerning police escorts and substitute escort services do not apply in Denmark.
