Oversize Transport Permits

Standard Dimensions – Transport Without a Permit 

  • Solo truck: 12,00 m x 2,55 m x 4,00 m
  • Tractor unit + semi-trailer (2+3 configuration): 16,5 m × 2,55 m × 4,00 m – 40 t (provided axle load limits are not exceeded)
  • Truck + trailer: 18,75 m × 2,55 m × 4 m – 40 t (provided axle load limits are not exceeded)

Exceeding any of the above parameters (dimensions, gross vehicle weight, or axle loads) requires obtaining an oversize transport permit.

Single-use permits 

  • Validity: 30 days 
  • Scope: one specific route and a single journey

Multiple-use permits 

  • Validity: 30 days 
  • Scope: specific route; the application must include the exact number of planned journeys 

Permanent Permits

  • Validity: 1 year 
  • Scope: up to maximum dimensions of 23 m × 3 m × 4,2 m and 44 t (5 axles). Each entry under a permanent permit must be reported to the competent authority, and each notification is subject to a fee.

5–7 business days

It is not possible to extend the validity of an already issued permit. In such cases, a new permit application must be submitted.

  • Valid vehicle registration documents (with expiry date and official stamp),
  • EU Community Licence for the carrier,
  • CMR. 

  • According to the guidelines specified in the permit. 
  • Driving hours depend on the vehicle’s dimensions. In addition, traffic restrictions apply during holiday periods and the summer season. 

Cancellation costs depend on the stage of order execution and the timing of the cancellation relative to the planned start of the escort operation.

The same principle applies to permit cancellations: the later the cancellation occurs, the higher the potential costs, due to preparation work already completed, submitted applications, and resources already allocated.

Civil Escort

Escort Requirement Parameters

The obligation to use escort services arises when any of the following limits are exceeded:

  • 16,5 m × 2,55 m × 4 m and 40 t. 

Number of Escorts

The number of required escort vehicles depends on the route and direction of travel.
The exact number is specified in each issued permit.

Types of Escorts and Requirements

The escort driver must hold Croatian authorisation and operate within a Croatian company.
The escort vehicle must be equipped with:

  • yellow warning lights, 
  • “IZVANREDNI PRIJEVOZ” sign, 
  • appropriate radio communication (CB radio). 

Police Escort

The requirement for a police escort is determined solely by the issuing authority.  

Requests for police escort must be submitted at least 48 hours before the start of transport.
