Oversize Transport Permits

Free dimensions (transport allowed without permit)

  • Width: up to 3,25 m
  • Height: up to 4,5 m

⚠️ Before the route, the passability must always be checked with regard to the current total vehicle height.

Load length:

  • Non-divisible load: up to 20 m
  • Divisible load:
  • up to 20 m, provided that other dimensional limits are not exceeded
  • the length from the kingpin to the end of the load must not exceed 12 m

Weight:

  • up to 50 t (axle loads in accordance with standards; applies to non-divisible loads)

⚠️ On certain road sections, the permitted gross weight may be lower, and during specific periods axle load restrictions may apply.

Exceeding any of the above parameters (dimensions, gross weight, or axle loads) requires obtaining an abnormal transport permit.

Route permit

  • Validity: 1 month
  • Scope:
    • Specific vehicle combination – applies to a defined vehicle and load
    • Route (one-way) – specified road section
    • Dimensions

3–5 business days

There is no possibility to extend the validity of an already issued permit. In such a case, a new permit application must be submitted.

  • Scanned copies of vehicle registration certificates
  • Authorization from the leasing company – if the vehicle is leased

Trips are carried out only during the daytime, excluding the following periods:

  • Monday – Thursday: peak hours between 07:00 – 09:00 and 15:00 – 18:00
  • Friday: peak hours between 07:00 – 09:00 and 15:00 – 24:00
  • Weekend: from 06:00 on Saturday to 24:00 on Sunday
  • Pre-holiday days: from 15:00 to 24:00 on the day preceding the holiday

If the axle spacing in the semi-trailer is between 1.3 m and 1.79 m, the maximum permitted gross weight in Norway is 52 t
(Applies to a 3-axle tractor unit and a minimum of 3 axles in the semi-trailer.)

If the axle spacing in the semi-trailer is greater than 1.79 m, the maximum permitted gross weight in Norway is 56 t
(Applies to a 3-axle tractor unit and a minimum of 3 axles in the semi-trailer.)

Cancellation costs depend on the stage of order processing and the timing of the cancellation in relation to the planned start of the escort operation.

The same principle applies to permit cancellations — the later the cancellation is made, the higher the potential costs, resulting from preparatory work already completed, submitted applications, and allocated resources.

Organization of Oversize Transport Operations

Oversize transport is a complex logistics operation that requires precision, experience, and excellent coordination.

???? Professional Route Planning
We analyse every kilometre of the route: bridge load capacity, turning radii, roundabouts, overpasses, detours, as well as both temporary and permanent roadworks. Planning begins well before the vehicle’s first movement.

???? Transport Escort
Specialised escort vehicles, equipped in accordance with applicable regulations, ensure a smooth and safe passage, responding dynamically to real-time road conditions.

???? Documentation and Formalities
Permits, approvals, and agreements with road authorities and other institutions — we take care of every document required for a safe and legal transport operation.

????️ Detailed Logistics Planning
We select optimal transit times, plan alternative routes, monitor weather conditions, and consider all external factors that may impact execution.

Result?

???? Oversize transport is carried out safely, legally, and on time, with full control at every stage — from initial planning to final unloading.

Escort of Oversize Transport Operations

Civil escort

???? When an escort vehicle is required

  • Width above 3 m – escort vehicle required
  • Length above 23,5 m – escort vehicle required

The number of escort vehicles is determined by the authority after the permit is issued.

In other cases, the decision is made by the official – this information will be specified in the permit.

???? Types of escorts

A private escort may be used if the vehicle meets the requirements:

  • Maximum vehicle weight: up to 4,5 t
  • Equipment: CB radio, yellow warning lights (at least 1), fire extinguisher, first aid kit, reflective vest
  • Required language of communication: Norwegian or English

???? Mandatory warning signs

  • “Bred last” – for oversized width
  • “Lang last” – for oversized length
  • “Tung last” – for excessive weight

⚠️ If the transport weight exceeds 65 t, the carrier must ensure escort provided by the NPRA (Norwegian Public Roads Administration), responsible for national and county roads.

Police and substitute services escort

???? When escort is required

  • Usually for exceeding the following dimensions:
  • Length: 25–30 m
  • Width: 3,5–4 m
  • Height: 4,5 m
  • Weight: up to 65 t
  • In other cases, the decision depends on the authority and route conditions – police escort may be required even for smaller dimensions where a civil escort would normally be sufficient. Information on police escort requirements is always specified in the permit.
  • Police escort may also be required when passing through certain tunnels, even if the height is below 4.5 m.
