Oversize Transport Permits

A permit is required once any one of the following parameters is exceeded:

Tractor unit + semi‑trailer (for indivisible loads, with permissible axle loads maintained)

  • Length: 16.5 m
  • Width: 2.55 m
  • Height: 4 m
  • Gross weight: over 40 t

Truck + trailer (for indivisible loads, with permissible axle loads maintained)

  • Length: 18.75 m
  • Width: 2.55 m
  • Height: 4 m
  • Gross weight: 40 t

1. One-time permit

  • Validity: up to 7 days
  • Purpose: a single journey or a specified route
  • Scope: 1 route, 1 vehicle combination

2. Permanent permit

  • Types: monthly, yearly
  • Vehicle dimensions: max. 22 m in length, 3 m in width, 4.5 m in height
  • Maximum weight: 50 t
  • Minimum number of axles: 5–6

Scope: entire territory of Latvia, 1 tractor unit + max. 6 trailers

2–5 working days.

The waiting time may be extended if an additional route study is required.

Permits are not subject to extension. Once the validity period has expired, a new permit application must be submitted.

Cancellation costs depend on the stage of order processing and the timing of the cancellation in relation to the planned start of the escort operation.

The same principle applies to permit cancellations — the later the cancellation is made, the higher the potential costs, resulting from preparatory work already completed, submitted applications, and allocated resources.

Police escort and substitute services – what parameters does it depend on?

  • The decision on the need for a police escort is made by the authority issuing the transport permit.
  • From 2025, a police escort is not mandatory.
