Oversize Transport Permits

Standard Dimensions – Transport Without a Permit

  • Tractor unit + semi-trailer: 16,5 m × 2,55 m × 4,00 m
  • Truck with trailer: 18,75 m × 2,55 m × 4,00 m

Axle Configuration:

  • 4-axle configuration: maximum gross vehicle weight 36 t
  • 5-axle configuration (2+3 axle layout): maximum gross vehicle weight:
  • < 1,41 m – 42 t,
  • < 1,81 m – 45 t,
  • < 1,81 m – 48 t.
  • 5-axle configuration (3+2 axle layout): maximum gross vehicle weight 44 t
  • 6-axle configuration: maximum gross vehicle weight 50–56 t

Exceeding any of the above parameters (dimensions, gross vehicle weight, or axle loads) requires obtaining an oversize transport permit.

Single-use permit

  • Scope: a specified route, one journey
  • Validity: 10 days
  • Vehicles: 1 tractor unit + 1 semi-trailer

Annual Permit

  • Scope: entire territory of the Czech Republic
  • Maximum dimensions: 30 × 3,5 × 4,5 m
  • Maximum overhang: 3,0 m (included in total length)
  • This means that at the maximum permitted length of 30 m, the load-bearing part may be up to 27 m long, with the remaining 3 m constituting the overhang.
  • Similarly, a total length of 19,5 m corresponds to 16,5 m of load-bearing part + 3,0 m overhang.
  • Validity: 1 year
  • Vehicles: 1 tractor unit + 1 semi-trailer

Standard processing time: 3–7 business days

Permit for a specific route: up to 30 days — processing time depends on the transport parameters.

It is not possible to extend the validity of an already issued permit. In such cases, a new permit application must be submitted.

The following documents are typically required:

  • vehicle registration certificates for trucks and semi-trailers/trailers
  • company tax identification number (NIP)
  • power of attorney (if the application is submitted on behalf of another entity),
  • for gross weights above 40 tonnes, additional documents are usually required, such as:
    • TÜV certificate
    • §70 approval
    • technical expert report (Gutachten)
    • nameplate / document confirming the technical specifications of the tractor unit

  • Vehicles up to 3 m wide: no time restrictions apply..
  • Vehicles over 25 m in length or over 3 m in width: driving is prohibited between 07:00–09:00 and 16:00–19:00. This applies only in urban areas (it does not apply on motorways).
  • Vehicles over 4 m wide and over 27 m long: driving is permitted only between 22:00–06:00

Amber Warning Lights:

  • 2 units at the front of the vehicle,
  • Additional rear lights required if the vehicle length exceeds 16,50 m.

Cancellation costs depend on the stage of order execution and the timing of the cancellation in relation to the planned start of the escort operation.

The same principle applies to permit cancellations: the later the cancellation occurs, the higher the potential costs due to preparation work already completed, submitted applications, and allocated resources.

Organization of Oversize Transport Operations

Oversize transport is a complex logistics operation that requires precision, experience, and excellent coordination.

???? Professional Route Planning
We analyse every kilometre of the route: bridge load capacity, turning radii, roundabouts, overpasses, detours, as well as both temporary and permanent roadworks. Planning begins well before the vehicle’s first movement.

???? Transport Escort
Specialised escort vehicles, equipped in accordance with applicable regulations, ensure a smooth and safe passage, responding dynamically to real-time road conditions.

???? Documentation and Formalities
Permits, approvals, and agreements with road authorities and other institutions — we take care of every document required for a safe and legal transport operation.

????️ Detailed Logistics Planning
We select optimal transit times, plan alternative routes, monitor weather conditions, and consider all external factors that may impact execution.

Result?

???? Oversize transport is carried out safely, legally, and on time, with full control at every stage — from initial planning to final unloading.

Escort of Oversize Transport Operations

Parameters Determining the Need for Escort/Pilot Vehicle

  • Up to 22 m × 3,20 m × 4,50 m, weight up to 49,99 t – no pilot required.
  • 26 m × 4,00 m × 4,50 m, weight up to 79,90 t – 1 pilot vehicle.
  • 30 m × 4,50 m × 4,50 m, weight up to 89,90 t – 2 pilot vehicles.

Note:
The final decision regarding the number of escort vehicles is made by the issuing authority. The actual escort requirement may differ from standard thresholds; therefore, the information specified in the issued permit should always prevail.

Police Escort Requirements

  • A police escort is mandatory when transport dimensions exceed: 50 m × 5,50 m × 5,00 m and the total weight is 150 t or more.
